Julian Proleiko is a regular member who has participated in hundreds of tournaments at the Chess Club. He can be spotted nearly every day of the week playing blitz in the Club.

Now an Expert, Julian recently won his first standard game against a grandmaster in this year’s Millionaire Chess Satellite Tournament. He has the ambition to one day become a master.

Julian’s favorite memory at the Chess Club occurred when he was only rated 1500 and asked a man to play a friendly match. After a crushing defeat, Julian asked what the man’s rating was and learned he was casually playing a 2700.

Christopher Holley is a rapidly improving young chess player that attends the Club every week on Sundays. His rating has increased over 500 points since he began playing chess a year ago.

The “Boy in the Blue Glasses” attends weekly lectures with a grandmaster, takes private lessons, and enjoys attending major events such as the U.S. Chess Championship and the Sinquefield Cup. One of the highlights of Christopher’s early chess career was winning a trophy from his school that is half as tall as him.

He hopes that one day the Chess Club will expand all the way to nearby FroYo and rename the store “ChessYo.”

Chess Band NameThe Hurt Move

James has made some long lasting memories at the Chess Club. His favorite by far is how the associates caught onto his phrase, ‘the hurt move is in effect’. The chess highlight of his life was when James played two members over a 2000 rating and beating both, adding 130 points to his old score.

When asked why James love the game so much, replied, “Chess is a game that can compliment everyone even if you are not a competitive person, chess is a good game to pass the time. It can be very relaxing and it really helps with cognitive exercises and helps engage mental abilities.” Playing chess has helped his personal life by exercising his competitive skills and his cognitive abilities.

Since being a member of the Chess Club, James has a few ideas for programming. He would like to see a grudge match against any two players, and to keep the Club open later so that members can stay later.
