Introduction to Scouting: Earn Your Chess Merit Badge

Girls interested in joining Scouts BSA can work towards earning their Chess Merit Badge during this one-day workshop.

The Chess Club will provide small group lessons throughout the day with Scouts BSA Merit Badge Counselors. Demonstrate your knowledge of chess to the world!

Come and meet our Cairns Cup competitors, some of the best female chess players in the world. The players will be at the Chess Club to sign autographs, take photos, and play chess. 

Description:
1.Earn your chess merit badge in a 1 day workshop.
2.Meet other scouts interested in chess.
3.Learn from the best, at an internationally recognized chess facility.
4.Learn about the scope of chess in the world today, find resources to improve your game, and find out about how you can participate in chess competitions, classes and activities.
5.Earn your Scouts BSA Chess Merit Badge!

Requirements: The workshop is free of cost to any scouts looking to fulfill the merit badge requirement. Basic knowledge of chess rules is strongly recommended. Transportation not provided. Lunch and snack will be provided. Snack will be provided by the STLCC, parents are advised to report possible allergens.

Schedule:
10 - 12: Lecture/practice
12 - 12:30: FREE Lunch
12:30 - 1:15: Testing (Requirements 1 - 5)
1:15 - 3:00: Play/Notation/Review (Requirements 6)
3:00: Signing of Merit Badge Certificates
