Blizzard Bowl 2022 (Online)

The Saint Louis Chess Club is continuing our Fall Grand Prix Tournament Series. It is a series of four tournaments where players can earn points by playing in each of the four tournaments. In addition to prizes award for each individual tournament, prizes will be awarded to the top players earning points for the whole series.

In order to compete, students must register here, and sign up for a free account on Lichess.org prior to the tournament. The third tournament, Blizzard Bowl 2022, will have three sections.

The three sections are as follows:

The K-12 OPEN (Grand Prix) is for experienced tournament players with established USCF ratings; (Kindergarten to 12th Grade). The K-12 OPEN will be a standard Swiss-style tournament with 5 rounds. 

The K-6 OPEN (Grand Prix) is for younger players who would like to build their tournament experience. (Kindergarten to 6th Grade). The K-6 OPEN with be a standard Swiss-style tournament with 4 rounds.

The Blizzard Bowl Arena (Non-Grand Prix) is for players new to tournament chess. (Rating limited to 1300 Lichess Rapid). This section will be 90 minutes in duration.

Each section of the tournament requires a password for entry.

Once registered, Scholastics will send you directions and a password to complete your entry on Lichess.org.

K-12 OPEN (Grand Prix)

All ratings accepted

Swiss Style Tournament - 5 rounds

G/25 minutes per side with no delay or increment

Starts 12 PM (Noon) Central Time - 5 hour run time (estimated)

K-6 OPEN (Grand Prix)

All ratings accepted

Swiss Style Tournament - 4 rounds

G/25 minutes per side with no delay or increment

Starts 12 PM (Noon) Central Time - 4 hour run time (estimated)

Blizzard Bowl Arena (Non-Grand Prix)

Players should be rated below 1300 Lichess rapid rating

G/10 no delay or increment

Starts 12 PM (Noon) Central Time - 90 min run time

Prizes

For each section, the top 5 players by total points will be awarded free online chess lessons from the Saint Louis Chess Club. The top female finisher in each section will receive a 1-hour lesson from our titled female chess coach.

Honest and fair play is required for players to receive prizes. Players who violate Lichess's Terms of Service will be disqualified. This tournament is not US Chess rated but will affect your Lichess.org rating.
