C.H.E.S.S. Cops

C.H.E.S.S. Cops (Chess Helping Enhance Student Skills) is a partnership created by the Saint Louis Chess Club, Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Dept, Saint Louis County Police Dept, and the Police Athletic League. C.H.E.S.S. Cops addresses the need for improved relationships between at-risk kids and police officers in Saint Louis city and county. The program pairs police officers with at-risk school children to teach chess and play together either in schools, at organized tournaments or at detention centers. C.H.E.S.S. Cops also provides officers with the knowledge and tools to act as an ongoing resource to help further programs in schools.  The Saint Louis Chess Club provides opportunities for officers' instruction on either an individual or a small group basis. Classes are tailored to provide both chess instruction and general strategies for managing the classroom.
