Biography

 Anna Sargsyan will be making her debut in this year’s U.S. Women’s Championship. She joins Tatev Abramayan, Levon Aronian, Varuzhan Akobian, Vladimir Akopian, and Melik Khachiyan as Armenian born players who have enriched the American chess community at the highest level.  

Anna has excelled in team competitions throughout her career with consistently high performance including an individual gold medal on the reserve board at the 22nd European Women’s Team Chess Championship held in Batumi, Georgia, in 2019. She won a bronze medal on board four at the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, and was a member of the Webster University team which tied for first in the President’s Cup in 2025. While at Webster she was recognized for her academic excellence as well as her chess prowess.

Sargsyan was awarded the Women’s International Master title in 2019, the Women’s Grandmaster title in 2020 and the International Master title in 2021. Her peak FIDE rating is 2405.

Anna finished second in the 2025 U.S. Women’s Championship and made her debut playing for the U.S. national team at the 2025 FIDE Women’s World Team Chess Championship in Linares, Spain.
