Biography

Fide Master Ruiyang Yan of Mountain View, California, is no stranger to the U.S. Junior Girls Championship. This event will mark her fourth appearance in the tournament. She was second in 2023 behind Alice Lee but ahead of Carissa Yip who she defeated in their individual game. She was also second in the 2021 U.S. Junior Girls Championship.

Ruiyang won the 2023 WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions and the 2023 Susan Polgar Foundation Girls Invitational beating Alice Lee in a playoff for first. When she is not playing Ruiyang enjoys teaching kids at the Berkeley Chess School.
