Partnerships
Chess for Life is a chess-playing program designed to brighten the lives of cancer patients and their caregivers. The program provides chess tables, boards and pieces, along with volunteers who will play chess and offer instruction.
The partnership with Siteman Cancer Center, located in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, began in October 2009. Chess for Life not only provides social interaction and a welcome distraction for patients and their families, but also seeks to elevate the game of chess throughout the Saint Louis community and promote scientific research into the positive effects of playing chess on a patient's cognitive skill.

The Innovative Concept Academy is a new idea in public education. The school, located in the old Blewett School building at 1927 Cass Avenue in Saint Louis, is the product of the collaborative efforts of the Saint Louis Public School District, the Missouri Family Court, and MERS-Goodwill and is the brainchild of Judge Jimmie Edwards.
Judge Edwards established the school in order to provide a unique learning environment, with a fresh look at education, for students who could benefit from a school designed to meet their needs. This vision requires dedicated instructors and mentors who are willing to help guide students through the learning process. The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis has partnered with the Innovative Concept Academy to provide specific programs that fit this approach.
The CCSCSL provides an in-school classroom that offers a chess-based curriculum designed to promote critical thinking. The club also sponsors an after-school program at the school that offers opportunities for the local community, including parents and grandparents, to learn chess along with the students. In addition, the club promotes practice and instruction for an Innovative Concept Academy traveling chess team.
Chess can have a significant and lasting impact on students as they progress through the learning process, and the program at the Innovative Concept Academy could serve as a model for the benefits chess can offer to schools across the nation.

World Chess Hall of Fame
The World Chess Hall of Fame will soon be relocating to Saint Louis! The building located directly across the street from the Chess Club is currently undergoing renovations and, once complete, will further establish Saint Louis as the chess epicenter for the entire country. The collection at the World Chess Museum in Miami is being relocated to Saint Louis and will be coupled with the Bobby Fischer collection purchased by Rex Sinquefield in June 2009.
The building will also make room for designated gallery exhibit space to display works of fine art, both chess and non-chess related. Stay tuned for details.

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that is committed to making chess an important part of our community. In addition to providing a forum for the community to play tournaments and casual games, the club also offers chess improvement classes, beginner lessons and special lectures.
Another important aspect of our mission is to develop in-school and after-school scholastic chess programs. Chess teaches valuable lessons for developing students like problem solving, critical thinking, spatial awareness and goal setting.
