About Me

My name is Yuniesky Quesada. I got the grandmaster title in 2005. In 2010 I became a 2600s player, a qualification I have held for more than ten years. In 2015 I decided to be more active as a coach than a player, and I have been coaching since then.

Specialties

I enjoy encouraging students to think more critically about any position and improving their analytic and reasoning skills. I do that through analyzing games, showing you puzzles, and finding you the most suitable opening to your style.

Playing Experience:

  • In 2011 he shared 1st place with Lazaro Bruzon Batista, Mark Bluvshtein and Giovanni Portilho Vescovi at the American Continental Championship at Toluca, qualifying for the World Cup (2011), but lost in the first round rapid game tiebreaker to compatriot GM Lazaro Bruzon Batista.
  • He represented Cuba on board 3 at the Chess Olympiad (2012) in Istanbul, scoring 6/10. He placed =1st (2nd on tiebreak behind Varuzhan Eduardovich Akobian) at the 2013 World Open with 6.5/9. Was =1st (2nd on tiebreak) alongside Sandro Mareco at the 2015 American Continental Championship thereby qualifying for the World Cup (2015) where he was eliminated from the event upon his first round loss to Russian GM Ernesto Inarkiev.
  • Won the 2015 Mercosur Cup with 9/11.

Teaching Method

I will teach openings, middlegames, and endings. Also, I analyze my students’ games so that they can understand their mistakes.
