Anna Muzychuk

Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine is a legendary figure in female chess. One of only six women to achieve a rating of over 2600 FIDE (Judit Polgar, Hou Yifan, Koneru Humphy, Aleksandra Goryachkina and Ju Wenjun are the others), Muzychuk reached her peak rating of 2606 in 2014.

Muzychuk earned the Grandmaster title in 2012. Along with her sister Mariya (Women’s World Champion in 2015), the Muzychuks are one of only three sister pairs in history to earn the Grandmaster title. The Polgar sisters (Judit and Susan) and Kosintseva sisters (Nadezhda and Tatiana) are the others.

An outstanding player at fast time controls (Women’s World Champion at Blitz in 2014 and 2016) and Women’s World Rapid Champion (2016), Muzychuk came closest to being the Women’s World Champion in Classical chess in 2017 when she finished second to Zhongyi Tan. 

Muzychuk led Ukraine to gold in the 2022 Women’s Chess Olympiad as well as bronze in 2016 and silver in 2018. 

Anna Muzychuk is currently rated the number eight woman in the world.
