Biography

The newest American Grandmaster, who was awarded the title this past spring, Brewington Hardaway set several records with this achievement. He is now the youngest African American Grandmaster ever at age 15 and the first U.S. born African American player to be awarded the title.

Born in New York City, Brewington learned to play chess at the age of four and in 2019 at ten years old earned his National Master title. Now rated number 52 on the World Junior list for players under 21, Hardaway will be looking to improve on his debut in last year’s U.S. Junior Championship where scored a solid 5-4, tying with Andy Woodward for fifth place.
