Although Stavroula Tsolakidou was born in Kavala, Greece, she is no stranger to St. Louis having spent four years attending Saint Louis University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology earning summa cum laude honors for her academic excellence in 2023. She was a member of the first Billikens team to win a national collegiate chess championship in 2022.
Since then, Tsolakidou, who earned her Women’s Grandmaster title in 2016 and International Master title in 2018, has played professionally. She competed in the 2024-2025 FIDE Women’s Grand Prix where she tied for third in the Tbilisi leg and regularly plays in the German (Bundesliga) and Italian team leagues.
This will be Tsolakidou’s first Cairns Cup but far from her first event at the St. Louis Chess Club.
Stavroula Tsolakidou is currently the 22nd rated woman in the world.
