Woman Grandmaster Zoey Tang is the top seed in the 2024 U.S. Junior Girls Championship. According to the June FIDE rating list the 17-year-old from Portland, Oregon, is currently the fourth highest rated woman in the United States and number seven in the world among girls under 21.
Zoey tied for first in the 2024 Women’s Continental Championship held in the Dominican Republic which earned her a spot in the 2025 FIDE World Cup to be held later this summer. The winner of the 2024 WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions, Zoey made history when she won the 2023 Oregon Championship, becoming both the youngest ever and first female to do so. She repeated this feat in 2024. Zoey is one of the founders of Puddletown Chess, along with her younger brother Austin who is a USCF rated master. The non-profit organization promotes chess for young players in Oregon.
