Biography

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave is a three-time French Champion (2007, 2011, 2012), former World Junior Champion (2009) and World Blitz Champion (2021). He is also a five-time winner of the Biel Grandmaster Tournament (2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and a two-time winner of the Sinquefield Cup (2017, 2021). “MVL”, as he is affectionately known, was one of the youngest ever Grandmasters, earning the title at age 14. With a peak rating of 2819, he is the seventh highest-rated player ever. MVL has represented France in eight chess Olympiads, as well as numerous World and European Team events. Recently, MVL placed second in the 2023 Grand Chess Tour.
