Bibisara Assaubayeva of Kazakhstan is one of the rising stars in women’s chess. Earlier this year she nearly qualified to play a match for the Women’s World Championship, finishing second in the Women’s Candidates tournament in Cypress with a score of 8 from 14, half a point behind Vaishali Rameshbabu.
Assaubayeva was taught by her grandfather to play chess at the age of four and by six she was champion of her town. The following year she won the Girls Under 8 section of the World Youth Championships. Since then, she has continued to made rapid progress earning the International Master title at the age of 16 and the Grandmaster title last year.
A three-time Women’s World Blitz Champion (2021, 2022 and 2025), Assaubayeva led Kazakhstan to a second-place finish in the 2024 Women’s Chess Olympiad, it’s first ever team medal in this competition.
Assaubayeva is currently rated the number seven woman in the world.
