In the end, So emerged victorious on home soil to claim his second Sinquefield Cup title in Saint Louis. As one of the crown jewels of the 2025 Grand Chess Tour (GCT), the Sinquefield Cup once again delivered drama, brilliance and a spectacular finish. It’s been nine years since the last time I won the Sinquefield Cup. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. It feels great. I’ve been playing solidly, and maybe my opponents were more nervous than I was. Winning here in the city where I live, with my family and friends rooting for me, is really special. My fans and loved ones stick with me even when my play isn’t perfect, and that motivates me to keep fighting. At the end of the day, chess brings me joy, and with my family’s support—even my daughter telling me to ‘go kill them’—I feel inspired to keep going. Rising star and the youngest competitor in his field at just 15, Grandmaster (GM) Andy Woodward claimed the U.S. Junior Championship title. FIDE Master (FM)/Women Grandmaster (WGM) Zoey Tang captured the U.S. Junior Girls Championship, while GM Alex Fishbein emerged victorious in the U.S. Senior Championship after a dramatic playoff—marking first-time wins for all three players in their respective divisions. These events always deliver incredible competition, but this year’s championships were truly special.
