Demetrious Johnson Chess Tournament Results

Every year, the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL) partners with the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation to introduce chess to students during summer camps at the Demetrious Johnson Center (DJC). This summer, the partnership continued on with the CCSCSL providing chess classes and hosting a chess tournament to complete the camp on July 11th.

The DJC chess tournament drew in a total of 45 students, dividing into two sections: Starter Division and All-Star Division. In the Starter Division, Joel Nathan decisively took first place with a undefeated record of 3 wins. Jacob Mack, Nazyia Rayford, Makayla Jamison, and Milia Tipton took second through fifth respectively all with 2 wins and 1 draw. Even though they had the same points, the places were given due to tiebreaks.

The All-Star Division was a much closer race. After all rounds were completed, Aminah Taylor, Nickalous Phillips, Jasmine Mack, Demarre Bethel, and Davion Kee all had 2 ½ points. On tiebreaks, Aminah Taylor took first place.

We hope to continue this wonderful partnership with Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation in the future to introduce chess to more students.
