Our Resident Grandmaster: Yasser Seirawan

Resident Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan will lead all of the CCSCSL's programming through November.

Join the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis in welcoming back the legendary GM Yasser Seirawan as its Resident Grandmaster! GM Seirawan has become a staple within the rotating position, which features one of the nation’s premier players leading all of the Club’s programming during their stay in Saint Louis.

GM “Yaz” learned to play chess as a 12-year-old in Seattle, a year later becoming the Washington State Junior Champion and, at 19, became the World Junior Champion. He went on to become a four-time U.S. Champion and was ranked in the top-100 players in the world as late as 2007.

Beyond his storied chess career, Seirawan is also a well-respected chess journalist, author and the star commentator for the CCSCSL’s world-class events, providing him with an exceptionally wide range of knowledge coupled with the ability to reach players at all skill levels. His silky-smooth storytelling voice makes him a highlight host to all of our weekly lectures, and a favorite for the Sunday Kids classes and individually tailored private lessons.

Welcome back, Yasser!
