Our very own Saint Louis Arch Bishops are currently in first place in the Southern Division of the United States Chess League! Come down to the Central West End chess campus on Wednesday night and take in some high-level chess entertainment -- including dinner, drinks and live commentary from legendary GM Yasser Seirawan!

Headlined by Webster University stars GMs Wesley So and Le Quang Liem, the Arch Bishops (3-1) head into a week 5 inter-division matchup with the Arizona Scorpions (2-2) on Wednesday night, with first moves scheduled for 8:00 p.m. And while our studs do battle upstairs in the Chess Club, spectators can enjoy live game analysis from Seirawan -- host of the U.S. Chess Championships and the Sinquefield Cup -- next door at Lester’s Restaurant and Sports Bar.

The USCL features 18 American teams in weekly head-to-head matchups in a four-board competition -- and the Arch Bishops are stacked with talent. Our roster contains three of the top-four highest-rated players in the league: So, Liem and 2014 U.S. Champion runner-up Varuzhan Akobian, who have been rotating between our top two boards and terrorizing the league.

On Wednesday, So takes the black pieces on the top board against GM Mackenzie Molner, both recent headliners after producing the USCL’s last two highlight Games of the Week, while Liem commands white on board two against Arizona’s IM Alexi Diulger. So bests Molner’s rating by nearly 200 points, and Liem holds more than a 350-point advantage over Diulger!

The Arch Bishops’ bottom two boards are no slouches either, and both games will be pivotal to another win for Saint Louis! Lindenwood's WGM Anna Sharevich started out hot with 1.5/2 points through the first two weeks but, after two consecutive losses, looks to stop the slide on Wednesday against FIDE Master Robby Adamson -- the two are separated by only 20 rating points!

And representing the Arch Bishops on board four is the Chess Club’s own up-and-coming young gun Julian Proleiko -- only 15 years old! Proleiko lost a heartbreaker to a National Master in his first appearance of the 2014 season last week, but this week takes on Arizona’s expert Matthew Noble. Proleiko eats experts for breakfast!

The action starts this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m -- come root for the home team! Go Saint Louis!
