A great chess spectacle will take place Saturday, April 2. At the Flo Valley (SLCC) Campus (http://www.stlcc.edu/fv/) from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., several chess events will take place.

1) An unrated tournament for new players

2) A USCF-rated event

3) A simultaneous exhibition (20 boards) with World #8 Hikaru Nakamura

4) A blindfold simultaneous with yours truly (5 boards)

Field Trips at the Chess Club

It’s a March week of fieldtrips at the Saint Louis Chess Club and Scholastic Center!

Twenty-five students from McGrath Elementary visited the club on Thursday the 11th and a whopping sixty-three students on Saturday the 12th from Immaculate Conception of Dardenne.

Center!

 

Twenty-five students from McGrath Elementary visited the club on Thursday the

11th and a whopping sixty-three students on Saturday the 12th from Immaculate

Conception of Dardenne. 

 

Students enjoyed a variety of interactive activities while at the CCSCSL, including

chess lectures with GM Ben Finegold, simultaneous play, blitz play, and free

play. Participating students enjoyed a pizza lunch and received “I played a GM”

Robson wins playoff over Ramirez

GM Ray Robson scored a big win last night over GM Joel Benjamin to force a tie for second place and a playoff against GM Alejandro Ramirez. The playoff, which took place at noon CDT on Wednesday, featured a two-game match, both game in 25 minutes with a five-second delay. Robson managed to hold a draw with black in the first game, then scored a victory in the final game.

Amanov wins The Bill Wright Saint Louis Open

The tournament was not as strong as last year, but, to make up for it, the CCSCSL was also running the Saint Louis Invitational, which has two qualifying spots for the 2011 U.S. Championship.

I started well, winning my first four, but could not hold onto first place, as I lost to GM Mesgen Amanov in the last round.

SAINT LOUIS, March 6, 2011 -- The Saint Louis Invitational is wide open after round four with four players tied for first with scores of 2.5/4. Four others have scores of 2/4.

GM Ray Robson defeated GM Melikset Khachiyan to pull into a tie for first place.
