International Master Kostya Kavutskiy introduces Fischer Random chess, also known as Chess960 (although it’s referred to in the feature by the Saint Louis Chess Club event name “Chess 9LX”). This was a part of Day 2’s program, but due to technical issues, it was not seen until the VOD was uploaded.
In the ninth and final round, only Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura could still achieve 1st Place. Caruana led Nakamura by a half point, and so with mathematical tiebreaks, Fabi would secure a victory with just a draw. Nakamura would have to win his game, and Fabiano would have to lose for Hikaru to win Chess 9LX.
At this moment, Nakamura has defeated Shankland. Fabiano’s fate is in his own hands against Robson.
