The Fine Art of Happy Hour: Dada Inspired Drinks and Food with Music by 18andCounting
Dada was in the air on Friday, April 27th at the World Chess Hall of Fame’s Happy Hour! To celebrate our current exhibition, Marcel Dzama: The End Game, we invited expert mixologist Charlie Myers of McGurk’s Public House to invent colorful cocktails inspired by the artists’ historical influences. The innovative drink menu included titles such as “Slow Red Curtain” and “Peach Tree Smash.” The drinks were playfully dark and incorporated imagery found in the Dada art movement. Even the hors d'oeuvres menu featured treats highlighting the quirks of avant-garde art. The “Shrimp Readymade” and “Anti-Art Antipasti Skewer” were amongst the tasty dishes. Local dj 18andCounting’s eclectic playlist highlighted some of the bands for which Dzama has designed album artwork, costumes, and music videos. The music also included some of the performers featured in the photographs featured in our current second-floor exhibition Bobby Fischer: Icons Among Icons, Photographs by Harry Benson CBE.
