On February 10, 2018, the Nu Chi Foundation, with the support of the Brothers of Omega Psi Phi-Nu Chi Chapter, hosted a Mentee Chess Tournament. The competitors were primarily, made up of Mentees of the Fraternities and Sororities in the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Prince Hall Affiliated Family. This event was a huge success, given that it was the inaugural effort. Fourteen chess players competed in this thinking competition, with the top four competitors received plaques.
A huge contributor to the success of this event was the Saint Louis Chess Club (STLCC). We, the Nu Chi Foundation, initially reached out to the STLCC with the hopes of borrowing or renting materials and guidance for hosting the tournament. The response that we received was overwhelmingly. The STLCC donated boards and pieces, as well as suggestions for rules and structure for the event. They also provided participation medals for all the players. It is our hope to continue to work with the STLCC in future efforts.
