The Art of Chess and a Bit of Light Reading

This summer, the Saint Louis Chess Club is proud to highlight two unique chess camps with our community partners, Art Unleashed and the Saint Louis Public Library.

Art Unleashed is a non-profit art organization dedicated to enriching the lives of students through art classes, camps, and workshops that allow students to discover and enhance their creative side.  Young artists participating in this camp learned the game of chess while designing and creating their very own chess set! Chess instructors from the Saint Louis Chess Club led daily chess lessons, games, and activities.  Following the chess lesson students worked to create clay chess pieces and a wooden board to take home.

The Saint Louis Public Library has a reputation for the development of high quality summer programming, and this year is no exception. Through a Missouri State Library Grant, the Saint Louis Chess Club was invited to provide chess instruction at three separate locations for the summer of 2018.  The branches of Julia Davis, Machacek, and Divoll will host a week long chess camp, each culminating in a tournament to be played by students from the surrounding neighborhood.

The Saint Louis Chess Club is grateful to be a part of these amazing initiatives.  We offer our thanks to Art Unleashed and the Saint Louis Public Library for a wonderful summer.
