It’s a March week of field trips at the Saint Louis Chess Club and Scholastic
Center!
Twenty-five students from McGrath Elementary visited the club on Thursday the
11th and a whopping sixty-three students on Saturday the 12th from Immaculate
Conception of Dardenne.
Students enjoyed a variety of interactive activities while at the CCSCSL, including
chess lectures with GM Ben Finegold, simultaneous play, blitz play, and free
play. Participating students enjoyed a pizza lunch and received “I played a GM”
certificates from the club, each individually signed by GM Ben Finegold.
The ICD fieldtrip is the most successful field trip on record for the CCSCSL.
All sixty-three participants were knowledgeable in basic chess principles and
enthusiastically spend their time at the club. GM Ben Finegold participated in
leading both fieldtrips; “having so many kids here at the club is a sign of growing
chess culture in Saint Louis.” Picture galleries of the fieldtrips can be found here.
Special thanks to Jan Zinsser of McGrath PTO and John Patrick Milburn of
Immaculate Conception of Dardenne.
We have a first-rate staff here at the chess club ready and waiting to excite and
challenge your students. The CCSCSL offers a field trip opportunity to all schools
wishing to bring students to the club. The special group admission price is $5.00
per student, plus the cost of snack, or lunch, if either is chosen.
