GM Hikaru Nakamura once again will take on the world's best at the Bazna Kings tournament in Romania June 11-22. Nakamura needs eight points to break Bobby Fischer's record as the highest FIDE-rated American chess player ever. Fischer's highest-ever published Elo rating is 2785 and Nakamura's current Elo rating is 2777.2.
He will have black in the first round against the defending Bazna Kings Champion and World No. 2, Magnus Carlsen.
Chessdom.com reports that the 5th edition of the Bazna Kings international tourney will feature Carlsen, Vassily Ivanchuk, Sergey Karjakin, Hikaru Nakamura, Teimour Radjabov and local hero Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu.
Carlsen, last year's winner, won the event with full two points advantage ahead of Radjabov and Gelfand. This year's event will feature an ELO average of 2760. Stay tuned for more details and to trakc Nakamura's progress as he seeks to become the highest-rated American ever!
