Thanksgiving Open, GM Norm Tourney in Saint Louis

SAINT LOUIS, November 25, 2011 -- Chess players across the country will be gathering in Saint Louis this week to give thanks for tournament chess. The Thanksgiving Open, scheduled to be held November 25-27 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, features a prize fund of $10,050, and 10 titled players have already signed up to compete:

• GM Andre Diamant
• IM Danny Rensch
• IM Angelo Young

The tournament is a FIDE-rated, six-round, G/120 tournament in three sections (Open, U1800, U1400), and it also features two-day and three-day options with the option for re-entry. The first three rounds of the two-day option are G/65, and then the fields merge for round four.

Following the Thanksgiving Open, the CCSCSL will host its first-ever GM norm tournament. The tournament is scheduled to run November 29 through December 3, and will be a nine-round, round-robin tournament with a standard FIDE time control. Stay tuned for updates and more details!
