Our Resident Grandmaster: Jennifer Shahade

Resident WGM Jennifer Shahade will host a special GM Lecture on Saturday, Jan. 24, followed by a nine-round Blitz open tournament.

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis welcomes back WGM Jennifer Shahade as its Resident Grandmaster through January 29.

Boasting an exceptional amount of talent in several areas -- a professional chess star by day, professional poker player by night -- Shahade is a two-time U.S. Women's Chess Champion (2002, 2004) and was the only woman to win a U.S. Junior title, achieved in 1998. She is also a highly respected chess journalist, the author of two chess books, editor of the U.S. Chess Federation's Chess Life Online, and a star host alongside GM Yasser Seirawan for such high-profile events as the U.S. Championships and the Sinquefield Cup.

Shahade will be only be in St. Louis for a short stay, but while she is here, she is available for one-on-one private lessons and will lead all of the Club's free programming for members, including our popular Sunday kids classes. She will also provide our highlight monthly GM Lecture and Blitz Tournament on Saturday, January 24, a special evening class at 6:00 p.m., followed by a nine-round Blitz event at 7:00 p.m.

Welcome Jen!
