SAINT LOUIS, November 25, 2011 -- Chess players across the country will be gathering in Saint Louis this week to give thanks for tournament chess. The Thanksgiving Open, scheduled to be held November 25-27 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, features a prize fund of $10,050, and 10 titled players have already signed up to compete:

The eagles have landed … on the chess board! Forty-six students at Clark Elementary School in Webster Groves have joined the CCSCSL’s scholastic program. The group was split into three classes, by grade level, and three instructors give lessons simultaneously at the facility on Tuesdays. It is one of the biggest individual programs in the CCSCSL scholastic chess program.

The 2-on-2 Team Championship featured 18 teams, and couple of college students upset a few of the favorites to claim the title.
