Meier Wins 2014 CCSCSL Club Championship

The 2014 Club Championship took place January 24-26 at (you guessed it!) the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis. The event was five rounds, with one round Friday night, and two each Saturday and Sunday. I have played in a few of these events, but to my memory, this was by far the largest with 36 participants.

A total of 12 players vied for a free USCF Membership at the monthly Adult Beginner Tournament. Among the mix of players were two after-school chess instructors for the CCSCSL, Evan Baker Smith and Grace Foo, a father-son combo of George Jordan Jr. and George Jordan III, kid’s class veteran Hunter Pecoraro, new club member James Adams and new USCF member Emma Baak.

Resident GM Rotation Brings Familiar Faces

The Resident GM rotation is bringing back some familiar faces. GM Ben Finegold will take on the task of Resident GM from January 24 through February 2. Ben will be available for private lessons through the club, and he'll also be teaching all of our classes including the Kids classes on Sundays.

Saint Louis to host 2014 U.S. Championships

SAINT LOUIS, January 15, 2014 -- The best chess players in the U.S. will gather in Saint Louis once again to fight for the title of U.S. Champion and U.S. Women’s Champion.

For the sixth consecutive year Saint Louis will host the top chess tournaments in the nation.

GM Gata Kamsky will defend his title at the 2014 U.S. Championship while recently anointed Grandmaster Irina Krush will look for her sixth title at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Championship. The events will be held simultaneously May 7 through May 21 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL).
