SAINT LOUIS, January 31, 2012--Lindenwood University is putting out a call for some of the finest young chess players in America and abroad. And the university is willing to provide scholarship money to build the nation’s top collegiate chess program.

Chess Club founders Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield were each recognized and honored Sunday night at the 2012 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Springfield, Mo.

Rodney Vaughn started the New Year with a successful tournament that clinched a spot in the 2012 Knights Championship. In 2011, it took Rodney nine attempts to qualify.
Rodney's 4-0 performance netted him a $50 Gift Certificate to the Chess Club. Never resting on his laurels, he plans on putting it toward lessons with Resident Grandmaster Ben Finegold.

Club Founder Rex Sinquefield attended a fundraiser for the Kasparov Chess Foundation in New York last week, and had the opportunity to take on former World Champion Garry Kasparov in a simul.

The 2011 edition of the Holiday Bash proved quite exciting with unexpected results across all the boards, along with crushed dreams of victory. Okay, maybe I was the only one suffering hallucinations of first place. Considering how trying the Holiday season can prove for everyone schedules, 47 joyful souls still managed to turn up for this festive event, which featured three sections: the Open (1700+), U1700, and the U1300.
