SAINT LOUIS (April 24, 2015) – After two editions, the Sinquefield Cup had already proved itself as the gold standard of global chess tournaments. For 2015, the Saint Louis, MO super-tournament will find itself in good company.
On Friday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. CDT, the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis will host a special press conference that announces the 2015 Sinquefield Cup as part of a new international circuit for the world’s leading professional chess players.
Several international representatives involved with the new circuit will join the press conference, which will be streamed live on www.uschesschamps.com. Media will have the opportunity to submit questions for answering during the live event.
SAINT LOUIS (April 7, 2015) – World chess legends Garry Kasparov and Nigel Short will meet later this month for the first Battle of the Legends exhibition match, to be held in Saint Louis, the Chess Capital of the United States.
On April 25-26, former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov and famed English Grandmaster Nigel Short will play a series of blitz and rapid games at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL), rekindling the duo’s match at the 1993 World Chess Championship.
All of the CCSCSL’s regular weekly programming will stay current during the 2015 U.S. Championships, except for the Sunday afternoon kids classes. That means another installment of our Monthly Knights tournament, which pairs players with one game a week every Wednesday evening for a Swiss tournament that lasts the whole month long!
Join us for the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 U.S. Chess Championships on Tuesday, March 31 at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
The Opening Ceremony will begin Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by opening remarks from several special guests, including CCSCSL founder Rex Sinquefield and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. Inductions will be made to both the U.S. and World Chess Halls of Fame, and 24 of America’s finest players will be introduced in the 2015 Drawing of Lots, unfolding the exciting schedule of the upcoming event.

February’s inclement weather resulted in an unusually high number of half-point bye requests in the early rounds of February’s Wednesday Knights Tournament -- thought it wasn’t enough to stop Knights regular Daniel Coryea (1800), who braved the conditions each week to collect a perfect 4/4 score.
OUR MISSION It is the mission of the Saint Louis Chess Club, an educational organization, to maintain a formal program of instruction to teach the game of chess and to promote and support its educational program through community outreach and local and national partnerships to increase the awareness of the educational value of chess.
