Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis to Host 2009 U.S. Women's Championship

ST. LOUIS, October 8, 2008 -- The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, which Steve Goldberg of United States Chess Federation (USCF) Online calls “certainly one of the most impressive chess centers” in the country, has been selected by the United States Chess Federation to host the 2009 U.S. Women’s Championship. The U.S. Women’s Chess Championship dates back to 1937. This is the second major tournament announcement made by The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis since its recent opening in July 2008. Just last month, the organization announced that it would host the United States Chess Championship next Spring.

U.S. Chess Federation taps CWE club to host 2009 championship

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis has snagged the opportunity to host a national chess tournament within its first year of existence. The center will host the U.S. Championship, a tournament that goes back to 1845, in May 2009.

OUR MISSION It is the mission of the Saint Louis Chess Club, an educational organization, to maintain a formal program of instruction to teach the game of chess and to promote and support its educational program through community outreach and local and national partnerships to increase the awareness of the educational value of chess.

All individuals employed by or working under the direction or authority of the Saint Louis Chess Club are expected and required to maintain appropriate boundaries and relationships with minors and are strictly prohibited from engaging in sexual misconduct, hazing and harassment.
