GM Ramirez Defends the Saint Louis Open!

Every tournament has its favorites. Even in tournaments as strong as the 2015 U.S. Chess Championship -- where each of its 12 participants were grandmasters -- there were clearly a few standouts who seemed more likely to take the throne. This was also the case at the Saint Louis Open on April 17-19 – but as with every good tournament, there were many, many surprises from the get go.

Give to Saint Louis on May 5 and Help Spread the Game of Chess!

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis is excited to be a part of Give STL Day, a 24-hour giving event that brings together nearly 800 nonprofit organizations from around the Saint Louis area! 

The giving period is Tuesday May 5 only, and we hope to have your support in pushing our scholastic initiative to over 5,000 Saint Louis area students, while setting a national example of the social and educational values of chess.

2015 Sinquefield Cup Dates to be Announced

On Friday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. CDT, the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis will host a special press conference that announces the 2015 Sinquefield Cup as part of a new international circuit for the world’s leading professional chess players.

Several international representatives involved with the new circuit will join the press conference, which will be streamed live on www.uschesschamps.com. Media will have the opportunity to submit questions for answering during the live event.

Garry Kasparov vs. Nigel Short, Live at the CCSCSL April 24-26

SAINT LOUIS (April 7, 2015) – World chess legends Garry Kasparov and Nigel Short will meet later this month for the first Battle of the Legends exhibition match, to be held in Saint Louis, the Chess Capital of the United States.

On April 25-26, former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov and famed English Grandmaster Nigel Short will play a series of blitz and rapid games at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL), rekindling the duo’s match at the 1993 World Chess Championship.

The 2015 U.S. Chess Championships Opening Ceremony at the Saint Louis Art Museum

Join us for the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 U.S. Chess Championships on Tuesday, March 31 at the Saint Louis Art Museum.

The Opening Ceremony will begin Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by opening remarks from several special guests, including CCSCSL founder Rex Sinquefield and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. Inductions will be made to both the U.S. and World Chess Halls of Fame, and 24 of America’s finest players will be introduced in the 2015 Drawing of Lots, unfolding the exciting schedule of the upcoming event.
