Scholastic Tournament Blog: 2019 Chess Carnival
On Saturday, February 9th, the Saint Louis Chess Club hosted its Chess Carnival scholastic chess tournament. It was the 5th tournament of the Grand Prix series and the first tournament held in the Parkway School District. Even during a nice and sunny day, 182 players gathered at Parkway Southwest Middle to see who would reign supreme.
Scholastic Tournament Blog: 2019 New Year’s Fray
On Sunday, January 20, the Saint Louis Chess Club hosted its New Year’s Fray scholastic chess tournament. It was the 4th tournament of the Grand Prix series and the first tournament of 2019. Despite the snowy weather and freezing temperatures, 201 players braved the elements and gathered at Cook Hall on the SLU campus once again to see who would come out on top.

On Saturday, December 15, the Saint Louis Chess Club hosted its Holiday Classic scholastic chess tournament. It was the 3rd tournament of the Grand Prix series and the final tournament of 2018. In an effort to finish the year strong, 240 players gathered at Cook Hall on the SLU campus to see who was the best of the best.

On Sunday, November 18, the Saint Louis Chess Club hosted its Turkey Tango scholastic chess tournament. Historically, the Turkey Tango tournament has always been the biggest scholastic tournament of the year. This year was no exception, as we had an impressive 241 players participate.

In an effort to raise chess skill level in Saint Louis youths, the Saint Louis Chess Club (STLCC) implemented the Scholastic Chess Grand Prix to our monthly tournaments in order to award consistent tournament players last year. This year on Saturday, October 6, the STLCC added yet another incentive to young chess players by hosting its inaugural Scholastic Invitational Tournament to provide an opportunity for some high level scholastic competition.

Even during these hectic times of homework and sports, 160 dedicated chess players congregated on September 22 at Gateway Middle School to battle for chess supremacy.

After spending a summer full of sun, fun, and naps, the competitive spirit of chess players remains high. During the scorching heat at summer’s end and back-to-school excitement, 150 dedicated chess players clashed on August 26 at John Burroughs High School to determine the top dog and earn a strong start to the school year.
